The usage of free Café Wi-Fi has been getting some bad press recently with the BBC, Guardian focusing on some of the potential negative impacts of providing Wi-Fi without an effective business case and strategy.

These reports talk about the impact of a lack of social interaction a café of device users create, whilst others focus on “Wi-Fi freeloaders” who spend hours using the Wi-Fi and electricity without spending enough money to keep the lights on.

The idea of someone taking up space in your café and only buying a small americano might be frustrating, but most of these issues are due to a lack of restraints or controls put in place by the owner.

The problem is that the only person to be blamed for these abuses are the café owners that have let their free café Wi-Fi run wild and out of control.
